Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Fort Worth TX
1225 PM CDT Wed Apr 9 2025
...New Short Term, Long Term, Aviation...
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Sunny and rain-free weather will persist through the weekend,
with afternoon highs generally in the 70s and 80s.
- Low rain chances return early next week.
&&
.SHORT TERM... /NEW/
/Through Thursday Afternoon/
A warm and pleasant spring afternoon can be expected today thanks
to ridging aloft and generally sunny skies. Highs will climb into
the low to upper 80s for much of North and Central Texas, with a
couple of locations out west approaching the 90 degree mark. This
warming will be further enforced by compressional warming ahead of
a cold front that is moving toward the region. Occasionally
breezy conditions with wind gusts approaching 30 mph will continue
through the early to mid evening before dying down overnight. A
few high clouds will stream overhead. The cold front will descend
south from Oklahoma coupled with a surface low that will hang out
across our northwestern counties overnight and into tomorrow
morning. The front will resume a southeasterly migration through
tomorrow morning, reaching Central Texas by tomorrow afternoon.
Other than a subtle shift in wind direction from the
north/northeast, sensible weather conditions will remain largely
unchanged. Temperatures will cool down across our northeast with
highs in the mid to upper 70s, with the warmest temperatures
tomorrow afternoon across our southwest with highs approaching 90.
Due to a lack of available moisture, the front will be dry as it
passes through the region through tomorrow afternoon.

.LONG TERM... /NEW/
/Thursday Night Onwards/
Near to slightly above normal temperatures can be expected
through the weekend and into next week. A slight cool down behind
a cold front will bring us through the first half of the weekend,
with southerly flow returning on Saturday. The warmest day over
the next seven days will occur on Sunday with afternoon highs
climbing into the upper 80s and low 90s across our west. There is
a low chance that a few locations approach the 95 degree mark. On
top of these warmer temperatures, moisture will begin to return
across our eastern counties with dewpoints rising into the low to
mid 60s overnight Monday into Monday morning. This will be just
enough moisture to bring rain chances back into the forecast by
the middle of next week, as early as Tuesday morning as another
cold front approaches the region from the north. Because of this
potential, low PoPs will remain in the forecast across the Red
River. Additional rain chances in this same area will continue
beyond the period, although uncertainty increases quite a bit at
this time range. More seasonable temperatures and dreary
conditions with increased cloud cover will return next week as
well. Until then, please enjoy the nice, springtime weather!

.AVIATION... /NEW/
/18z TAFs/
Concerns...FROPA tomorrow morning with northerly flow returning.
VFR conditions will prevail across all TAF sites through the
extended period. Occasionally breezy conditions can be expected
through the early to mid evening with gusts upwards of 25-30
knots. A cold front will approach from the northwest overnight,
finally moving through the D10 terminals tomorrow morning. There
is a bit of uncertainty in the exact arrival of the front, but the
most reasonable timing is ~12z for D10 and ~15z for Waco.
